Flu vacination: Worth it for healthy adults?

Woman Suffering From Cold Lying In Bed With TissueThis is a resend of the advice I gave last year: nothing has really changed in the evidence for flu jabs.

Cochraine reviws are considerred to be amongst the most thorough and authorative of any critical analysis in mediciene so their review of the benefits of flu immunisation in healthy adults under 65 yrs of age deserves respect.

Their massive analysis found that each flu shot in this cohort saved an average of just 0.04 days off work.

Separate analyses for those with respiratory disease and other health risks showed some benefits, so those in the standard at risk groups should continue to be immunised – as recommended by GPs and the Department of Health.

For me, however this review kills the argument for the routine immunisation of healthy workers against seasonal ‘flu (pandemic flu was not considered).
