Wellness Programmes & Health Promotion
We are happy to support – and run – wellness programmes though we point out the disappointing lack of evidence supporting (most of) them: unfortunately, awareness rarely translates into behaviour change (e.g. smoking, weight loss, exercise).
The evidence base for screening programs (e.g. for hypertension or diabetes) is similarly disappointing: most make little, if any difference to levels of well-being, absence or mortality.
On the other hand, we well recognise the value such programmes can have in demonstrating the caring culture of the company and are happy to work with managers in devising programmes which best combine company culture and medical evidence-base.
An area we have particular interest in is mind health, especially self-help training programmes for building emotional resilience and self-reliance: these are generally well received, low cost and have lasting benefits.
